frost91
so i brought my tri metal and my phunnel to my friends party and we had a really long 3 hour smoke. At first, he gave me some tissue thin foil and the foil kept getting sucked into the air hole and let to a hard pull.....finally he found some heavy duty foil and gave it to me.....i used it and it was good for about 5 min, but after that it just kept getting sucked in and lead to a hard pull. I had to constantly pull the foil back down so it wouldnt block the smoke from going into the stem. Any have any advice? i just want a nice pull man! BTW its a small tangiers funnel and i was using al fakherEDIT: after a while i poked a hole in the middle and it was ok....but it was still getting a bit stuck. And i spoke to Codename a few weeks back and he said that he didnt poke a hole in the middle either....thats just normal air coming in Edited October 13, 2008 by frost91

mushrat
even with the hoses you may still have to occasioanlly pry the foill off the center hole.
*Veritas*
i Never have this issue and lately i havent been poking holes in the middle. I just make sure that the foil is pulled nice and tight on the bowl. I use heavy duty. so just try pulling it tighter so it cant suck down. I like the way it smokes better with out holes poked in the middle personally, to me it makes a difference but who knows. Stuie
I haven't had this issue in a long time. I never poke a hole over the center, i get more smoke and less air. I find using a slightly bigger piece of foil and making the entire thing tight on the phunnel keeps it from being sucked down.
MechAnt
I never poke holes directly in the middle but I do have conccentric circles including one around the middle. It works extremely well. Another piece of advice I got from Eric is to pack more tobacco! He said, especially with Tangiers, the tobacco itself holds the foil up. Fear not for shisha sticking is not a problem
Glassjaw
Make sure you wrap the foil tight when first applying it. I never poke holes in the middle unless it gets harsh for some unknown reason. As said above, make sure you pack enough tobacco too. jezter6
I've never put a hole in the middle. I just use good HD foil and pull it good and tight. That, and of course packing it. I honestly don't know how you can get it to go down and cover up that center hole if you've got a full bowl packed..
Codename067
.............No hole in the middle...holes AROUND the middle. When you put the Heavy Duty foil...make sure you put it on the bowl VERY hard/tight [the foil FLAT as can be on the bowl], and when you make the holes, hold the foil from the edges of the bowl so the foil does not move down when you are poking the holes. noca$h
Would it be possible to... maybe tie the foil down on the bowl somewhere? Say like using a rubber band or scunci? Of course not near the coals.
*Veritas*
^^^^ Not really necessary if you pull the foil tight and smash it around the bowl good and tight it wont be going anywere. the bowl tapers so if smashed down good there isnt going to be any movement. clickhea
heres the solution i use to this problem.. excuse the pics they were taken on a camera phone.baby paperclip bent over the hole of the phunnel.
Voski
your bowl is faulty. 1 out of the 10+ phunnel bowls did this. The center rises up too high. Poke a hole in the middle and hang your tongs from the hole. You have to put the metal poker in the hole and have the tongs hang off the side of the bowl. This will prop up the foil in the center and fix the problem Let me know if u need a picture of what I'm saying
NarghileNights
this is (basically) exactly how Eric showed me how to do it.

staygone
Your having problems with the phunnel getting "stuck". Poke a hole in the middle, where it is restricting your pull, and call it a day. The previous packing post were not for tobacco being used, they were for the hole patterns. Sure, hole patterns are different tobaccos but come on, if your getting a restriction due to the PHUNNEL hole getting covered, then let some air flow through the phunnel. -QM Edited October 14, 2008 by QuiltedMaple
Voski
If he is having the same problem I had with my bowl a hole in the middle is not enough. The middle hole has to be used as a mechanism to lift the foil up by hanging the tongs from the hole.
